Lady Tarzan! Jamuna takes a Stand

Lady Tarzan! Jamuna takes a Stand.

The picture book, Lady Tarzan is written by the storyteller, Lavanya Karthik. Illustrated by Rajiv Eipe, who has worked on several children’s books.  This English storybook is appropriate for ages 2+.

Jamuna as a child, was taught by her father that our mother nature is what keeps us all alive and well. The trees should be considered as our brothers and sisters. We as humans should at all costs save the trees from destruction. In this incredible true-life story, Jamuna considers trees as her brothers and sisters.

Not everyone accepted Jamuna for her respect and love for trees. At times her own villagers, scared of the wood smugglers, refused to support Jamuna for a good cause. As you know, a good forest is a beautiful ecosystem by itself. And such an ecosystem attracts few people for the wrong reasons. A natural and beautiful ecosystem is subject to exploitation for various selfish demands.

So, what does a good sister do when the lives of her siblings are in danger? How does Jamuna convince her villagers to fight against the evil authorities to keep the forest safe?

This picture book, also a read along book, is a true-life story of Padma Shri Jamuna Tudu, fondly known as Lady Tarzan. She fought fearlessly to protect the forests of Muturkham in Jharkhand. This book is available at the online bookstore Redeye Chapters.
